Santa Fe National Forest Travel Management Plan Details

On Monday August 9, 2010 the SFNF Office will start taking official public comment on the Travel Management Plan. According to a contact with the Santa Fe office, alternative 1 of the Travel Management Plan will NOT be considered a viable option due to federal constraints beyond their control. Alternative 1 is in place to allow the public a reference for the current Travel Management Plan. Please read the Travel Management Plan and call the SFNF office at (505) 438-5443. Make sure to leave your information and your support for one of the plans (2-5).

For more information, please follow this link to the SFNF site regarding the alternatives:

What this means:

The forest service will be shutting down unrestricted motorized cross country travel.

The least loss option is alternative 4, but it may not be the best long term option.

A note from the President Johnson

Probably the biggest news this month is the introduction of the experimental Senior Expert (SE) class. In discussion with the Board and several concerned club members, introducing this class seems appropriate and in keeping with our Board goals to Keep It Safe, Keep it Fun, Keep It Going, and Keep It Growing.

Several …er, umm… ‘Experts of a certain age’ asked me to consider adding the SE class, to reduce risk for riders recovering from injuries, or who have skills beyond SX level, but have to go to work the next day, so the Board discussed how to do so with a minimum of disruption and added work for Trialsmasters.

Senior Expert

For the April trials and for the rest of 2010, the NMTA board has voted to have a "Senior Expert" class. This class consists of 4 Semi-Expert and 4 Expert lines. There is currently no age limit, so feel free to try it out. The club is hoping to find out if there is interest in this class for the future.
