Would like NMTA's input on this, and need it in 2-3 weeks if possible. G&F has asked NMOHVA to provide responses to these topics.
At the Las Cruces OHV Advisory Board meeting, OHV plate and/or sticker media was talked about. It is a concern of G&F (Dan Brooks) and the Board. One issue is size for identification and incident reporting. I don't think G&F will make the OH plates bigger, as that is pretty much a national, customary standard. However, making those smaller will probably not happen either.
The edges and material aren't so much concerns, as location and legibility. Need help/input/confromation on the plates, FROM your TA community.
Now, the stickers...
The Board and greenies want the stickers bigger than their current size. At a distance, they are hard to locate (even if they are supposed to be in one conventional location, which there is no statue on currently). I think you've seen the stickers, maybe at the Gerding show. They're about 3 x 2.5" (see other states' stickers):
Reading any hand-written characters from 8-10 feet would be a challenge for an eagle.
Right now, there is no statue on machine location or size. The Dept wants m/c input on these issues as well. My first impression with the sticker is that the artwork and color looks great but is too busy (Tourism probably created these). The number of colors probably increases printing costs significantly. Was thinking of a state silhouette and permit numbers on top, for simplicity.
Anyway, if you have more questions, please ask. G&F is asking to meet this month to discuss and come to a decision on this - even before the May 15 mtg.
